Frequently Asked Questions

What is psychological therapy?

You can find out more about Psychological Therapy here.

How much do individual sessions cost?

Direct therapy sessions range between £130 and £150 depending on the type of therapy required, which are usually around 50-60 minutes in length. If you require any specific letters or reports, these will be charged at the same rate, as are external meetings.

Letters are only written as requested and you will not be charged for any letters without a prior agreement.

Rates are based on direct referrals to Dr Jen Dainty. Rates may be higher if you are working with Jen in a different service, which will be a service-specific rate.

How long does therapy last?

It is impossible to say exactly how long therapy will last, although we can estimate how many sessions might be needed after your full assessment sessions. 1-2 sessions are usually required for an initial assessment.

How do I pay?

You will be required to pay for sessions in advance, any time up until the start of your session time. You will be provided with an electronic invoice for each session when you book. Cases funded by external providers such as case management will be invoiced following sessions.

Where will sessions take place?

Sessions will take place either online or at Lathom House Consulting Rooms in Burscough, L40 4BZ, based on your preference. If you have any alternative requests regarding the location of sessions, please do not hesitate to discuss this with us via the enquiry form in the ‘contact’ tab. Home visits are available at an additional travel cost.

This is new to me; what happens in our sessions?

Many people feel apprehensive before their first appointment, and almost always report afterwards that it was a very different experience to the one their mind told them it might be! Our first sessions are always about understanding your experiences, what has brought you to therapy and exploring what you might like to be different about your life currently. We do usually ask more questions in those first few sessions, which helps us to build our joint understanding of how things have impacted on you. Future sessions tend to focus on developing strategies to manage difficulties and reviewing these as we go.
